well, the expression 'mate' is something that i could fairly easy get used to, to be honest, i cought myself using it once or twice. i think that these things really go with the territory, and there is no other way, but just accept it. some people in poland abuse other phrases, or words for that instance. i went out with another driver the other day, and the man said 'are you with me?' every other word. of course he wasnt interested wheather i was paying any attention to his blabber, it was just something he said every few words.............................. so dont worry mates, the word doesnt mean disrespect :-)

I must say that with time I got used to 'mate' and even started using it myself  .
It's particularily useful when you refuse to give money to a Big issue man - just say 'sorry mate, I'm broke'. Works perfectly  .

mate is much better than love
i hate when people say: "thanks love" "excuse me love do you work here"
i could kill when i hear it, really

is not much of British English, is it? It's rather South Park-style AME slang, not very popular here, I suppose. I'd rather say 'piss off, wanker', but see no reason to be rude  .

To be as much accurate as I can I have to mark something for you.The third word in sentence you thought about is "expression" :-)
