Certain English individuals don't like being called "mate" by the strangers as word "sir" shows more respect for them but as a vast minority they have to accept that.
Personally I don't mind being called "mate" at all.

True Mike, and Id rather be called mate (even tho im a woman!) than for example dude, albo jesli chodzi o plec meska: geezer czy bloke
